It was so wonderful meeting Kristen and Chance visiting all the way from North Carolina to celebrate their Babymoon on Maui. What a special, wonderful vacation to celebrate their lives as a couple before their baby arrives.

They haven’t found out what they’re having – my guess is a girl. I’m excited to find out!

Babymoon Photography

The evening was so lovely at Baby Beach in Lahaina town. The light was a creamy caramel color – perfect for the vintage tones we were going for. I even found an opihi shell on one of the rocks. Opihi are the limpets that stick to rocks – we often call our kids little Opihi’s when they’re stuck at the hip. I thought it was fitting to work one into the shoot. Their little Opihi will be here in just a few months.

I really enjoyed meeting this family for their Maui photography session at Polo Beach in Wailea. Everyone was so excited to be on vacation together and the kids were so much fun!

We started out in the lobby of the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort – I love that bamboo forest!And the girls’ red hair? LOVE!

Then we made our way down to Polo Beach – I love this beach for several reasons – the golden sand, the lack of people (most of the time), and the rocks off to the South end are some of my favorite!

Loved every minute of this joyful session on such a gorgeous morning in Wailea.

The nice thing about Maui is that most photographers get along. And I’m fortunate to have a group of fabulous photographer friends here. It’s wonderful to know that there are other mom-photographers who are going through the same things that I am – trying to balance work, home, and kids. This job, after all, is similar to motherhood in that it is 24/7. Our images become somewhat our “babies” and we care for them and take pride in them and hone our skills to release our images out into the world.

Meet Karma – a beautiful, fabulous, talented fellow Maui photographer and her adorable family. I was so thrilled that she asked to go to Old Maui High. The ruins of Old Maui High are located in an old camp called Hamakuapoko – which doesn’t even exist anymore. It lies abandoned in the middle of a sugar cane field. It’s still glorious and beautiful despite it’s age. As a teenager, this was a favorite place for me to hang out. I always felt peaceful here – though it looked very different back then!

It was an absolutely glorious afternoon for a Maui photographers session. I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s so wonderful to capture these moments for a fellow Maui Photographer. All too often we’re the ones behind the lens. It’s so nice to have images with US enjoying our families!!

Sweet baby Kassidy is One! This session was a referral session – which is so much fun and so rewarding for me. Two incredibly sweet families sent me this family.

It was a beautiful morning at Kapalua Bay for their Maui photography session. Kassidy is such a doll baby. She loved the sand and had an adorable wobbly baby walk. Both of her parents are completely smitten – they are such a sweet family!

This family was so close to my heart. Their children are the exact ages of mine – 5 years, 3 years, and nearly 2 years. I was both excited and scared all at the same time. If you know my kids, they pretty much bolt whenever the camera comes out. So I didn’t know what to expect of these three cuties.

They are actually pretty identical to my own. Fun, cute, crazy, adorable, silly, and sweet. I got a great workout chasing these three around Poolenalena beach. We got an incredible sunset! Sure makes this Maui Photographer a happy camper to walk away from a session with new friends.

Today I’m playing “ketchup” as my daughter puts it. I’d like to share two awesome Maui photography sessions tonight!

I met this first family at Big Beach in Makena for a beautiful sunset photo session. It was truly special because there was a large crowd gathered on the beach and we were trying to figure out what it was for. Turns out that it was a release for baby turtles! In all my life living here, I have never seen this before.

This family was so much fun – I truly enjoyed being their Maui photographer!

This next session was another great family. We met for a sunset session at Baby Beach in Lahaina town. The tide was low and the water was like glass. We had a really unique, hazy sunset and beautiful light!

Patrick is more than a brother-in-law, he is truly like my brother. I met him when he was 12. And I met Lisa a few years after that. Yes… they’ve been together since they were practically kids. And they’ve come a loooong way. They are now expecting a little girl and I’m so excited to meet my niece in just a few more weeks. I love being a Maui pregnancy photographer. Isn’t Lisa just so beautiful and glowing? She is such a beautiful pregnant woman.

This lovely family was my first family of 2012! The session came about last minute and I was amazed at how they found me – the Siri iPhone search! I think I need to get my hands on the new iPhone

I loved how this family was spending their Maui Vacation – nice and leisurely. We had so much fun heading to the lava point near Kapalua Bay and exploring areas that I can only go to with older children and adults. The light was beautiful and we had a lovely sunset at the end.

Full Interview of Maui Photographer, Mariah Milan

Hawaii, Maui awarded Mariah Milan with a great smile, wonderful photos and exciting greeting “Aloha!”.

We are excited to interview Mariah and speak about family, photography, love and inspiration!

What role does photography play in your life?

Photography plays a huge role in my life. It’s not only my profession, but it’s my way of capturing my own family and where I live. It is my artistic outlet. Sometimes I feel like I live and breathe photography.

Why do you like it?
I love it because moments come and go so quickly. Photography catches that one moment – even just a fraction of a second – and freezes it forever. As time passes I may forget for a moment just how my son’s nose used to crinkle when he was a baby. And then an image pops up on my screensaver from years ago and I’m instantly reminded. It’s a time capsule. It’s a moment of life frozen forever. There is an immense sense of poetry in that. For me it’s all about love. Whether that’s a wedding day, a family, a mother and a child, or the birth of a baby. I’m so grateful that I get to photograph it all!

Do you see it as a hobby or as a professional occupation?
For me it is my professional occupation. I am out on a shoot 3 – 10 times per week. It provides for my family and still allows me to create my own schedule. It is truly the best job in the world! You can take a look at my website and blog

Do you have any other hobbies?
I’d like to think I’m crafty but I’m really not very crafty I love graphic work and love tweaking out my website and also keeping a family blog that is a journal of our families’ adventures. I also love going to the beach with my kids.

What does “stylish” mean to you?
Stylish goes so far beyond something looking good. Lots of things can look good. For me stylish is looking good in tandem with actually functioning extremely well. I’m a mom of three so practical and functional is HUGE in my world.

Could you please show some of your most precious pictures? Which do you like the most and why?
I am attaching some pictures for you. The hula girl is my daughter, Ryenne. I have a 20×30 canvas hanging in my home. I love that image of her! I have photographed tons and tons of newborns, including my two boys. The baby posed like a little frog is my son, Kai. He’s the only baby that I ever posed that way. So the image is also very special.

What is in your POMPIDOO bag?
I use my Pompidoo as a hybrid bag. I wish that I had it before! It’s a combination diaper bag/camera bag and goes all over the place with me! I have my Nikon with 50mm lens, diapers, wipes, change of clothes for the kids, wallet, lip balm, business cards, keys, Square reader, cell phone, and even some toy cars for the boys!
