There is a vintage truck that has been parked across the street from me for about a week now. Kai is fascinated by this truck. He wanted to sit on it. So I took him to the truck and he was silly and drooly. But oh his toes…. there is just something about children’s feet that I adore.

What an afternoon I had with Christina and Adrian! They flew in from El Paso for their Austin Engagement Session and we decided to do their session downtown. It’s a funny thing when I’m sitting by myself waiting for a client I’ve never met. I was sitting on a bench right off 5th street and people watching and wondering what my clients were going to be like in person.

As I’m waiting I hear the sweetest voice, “Mariah?” I turn and there she is – Christina! After months of planning this shoot and their wedding later this month, it was so awesome to put a face to the name and voice. Poor Adrian did circles and finally found parking.

There are a few things you should know about Christina and Adrian:

Christina has amazing taste in clothes and shoes
Adrian is obviously very smitten by his fiancee
Watching them together is amazingly sweet
They are incredibly fun to be around
They are a photographers dream and were good with any suggestions I had

Our first part of the shoot was in downtown Austin.

And then we headed to the UT Campus for more fun. While we were waiting for a car to pull out of a stall, another car backed right into Christina & Adrian! I am so thankful that nobody was hurt. We had to wait for quite some time while paperwork was exchanged and we kept thinking, “Gosh I hope we don’t lose this amazing light!” – but it ended up being a gorgeous evening and the light stuck around long enough for us to get some amazing images around UT.

Christina and Adrian, Peter and I are so excited to fly out to El Paso later this month to capture your wedding!!

Meet Kupono. Kupono is my parents sweet, golden Pit Bull. Kupono has been a part of our family since he was born in 2003. He doesn’t know that he’s a big dog. He thinks he’s teeny tiny and will try to sit in your lap.

“Pono” as we call him for short adores my children. He lets them play around him, hang on him, love on him. He is a constant companion to my parents and greets them everyday.

We found out that Pono has Cancer. We are all devastated. My brothers are flying out from Maui so we can all be together as a family to say goodbye to our pup.

As promised, more of lovely Lena for her Bridal shoot. It was HOT that day…. you know those triple digits that have been appearing lately… I was a little worried about Lena in her dress in this heat AND her heels but she was such a trooper and looked gorgeous through the entire session.

Today I am 30 years old! Isn’t that just the wildest thing? It was a pretty mellow day. It ended nicely with my very favorite pie. If you’ve ever been to Mama’s Fish House on the North Shore of Maui, you’ll know why this is a favorite! It’s Kuau Pie and my mom has perfected the recipe. Chocolate mousse and caramel are hard to beat.

I was really excited to meet Rhianna and her brand new daughter. When I was welcomed into their home, I noticed an immediate and beautiful connection between them. You know how you can see a beautiful gem or piece of jewelry and it’s awe inspiring? Well this is how Rhianna looked holding her daughter. It wasn’t until later in the session that I learned that this beautiful family owns Bell and Bird Jewelry . Indeed baby Helena is the very best gem!

What a beautiful mom and baby! Rhianna I’m so glad you let me capture you and Helena together! You both are absolutely gorgeous!

5 Months | Austin Baby Photographer

I am completely at a loss for how five months could have flown by so quickly. But it has. My newborn has turned into a sweet little baby boy with so much love and personality. His 5 month pictures are taken in the new home studio – awesome window light for babies!

This is the newest thing he’s doing… sticking out his tongue all the time. He has the cutest little bubblegum tongue!

If you are interested in having your Austin baby session in my home studio, let me know! The session fee is reduced to $150 for home studio sessions. These sessions are limited to baby and maternity sessions only at this time.

We were so thrilled to go out and play the other day and find that Ryenne’s sunflower had finally bloomed. This was a huge victory for me as I don’t have a green thumb at all. But it really was amazing to plant these seeds, see them sprout, see the plant grow so big, and then to be rewarded with this amazing flower. We were all jumping around excited.

So much has been going on outside of photography. Firstly, we are in the middle of buying our house. No, we’re not moving. We are just buying the house that we’re living in and I’m up to my earlobes with paperwork. It is such a challenge to do this as a small business owner! And if that weren’t enough, we are also planning a career change for my hubby. Years and years ago he graduated from college as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. He tried it out for a couple of years at a clinic and decided it wasn’t for him so he started working at the Westin Maui. Well, we all decided as a family that it’s time for Daddy to go back to school and get his RN degree. It’s going to be crazy in our house as Peter continues to work full time and go to school and I will continue taking sessions and weddings and managing the kids. Definitely a lot will be on our plate, but we’re up for the challenge!

Miss Bella knows how to work a camera!!! All I had to do was say, “Bella, give me your model pose.” and she went to town with the cuteness. I think mom and dad should consider entering her into a GAP ad campaign contest!

We did this session in one of my favorite places – Old Town Buda. I just love the small town vibe of this sweet town – and that turquoise door… loooove!

Bella just turned four last month. She is such a sweetheart!
