This sweet family came to Maui on vacation with their adorable 11 month old daughter. It was a beautiful, bright morning on Wailea Beach and my husband Peter joined me for this session. It was a ton of fun talking story with mom and dad Eric and Cheryl and we discovered what a small world we live in – they live 3 miles away from my Grandma!

Right off the bat I had so much fun photographing this family. It’s really refreshing to get to photograph a family having a great time together with their teen/adult children. They weren’t just fun, they had me cracking up through the whole session.

We started out in the Keawe forest of Palauea Beach and we didn’t realize that Steph (in the green) was sitting right next to a very active bee hive in the tree (can you spot it in the picture?). Nobody was stung, thank goodness! The afternoon light was lovely and as sunset approached, the clouds and the sunlight gave us a spectacular show – what a perfect way to end the day!

The girls were adorable and so much fun. I really enjoyed learning about their special pearl necklaces and how much they are enjoying their Maui vacation. It’s such a treat for me to capture sessions like this. Not only full of smiling faces, but parents that love tickling and playing with their children. It’s why I do what I do. I am always inspired by love (see the new watermark?).

Thank you, “N” Family for a fabulous session. And I hope the girls enjoyed laughing at all the fake spaghetti’s I made up to get them to smile (grape jelly spaghetti anyone?).

Lahaina Shores Beach Resort on Dwellable

I love DT Fleming Beach for Maui portraits because it is such a rugged, Hawaiian looking location. Though it doesn’t have a direct view into the sunset, it has a magical light that happens just about every night. It is definitely one of my favorite places for vacation photography.

I met this lovely family at the beach for a family portrait. It had been a really long time since they had done a family portrait and they figured Maui would be the perfect place to remedy that situation! And I couldn’t agree more…. what a perfect place for a family photography session. The boys were absolutely charming. Todd and Bonnie were awesome – poor Todd had suffered some pretty bad foot sunburn. OUCH! I really enjoyed chatting away at the end of the session about family and kids and life on Maui. What a wonderful session…. without further ado, the images!!!

A little note on the watermark… I’m working on a new watermark. I’m not sure this is the one that will win. So be on the look out for testers and let me know your thoughts on my Facebook Page!

Oh the joys of being a Maui photographer! I was actually a bit nervous for this session. Extended families = love. Kiddos = love. FOUR TODDLERS = nervous photographer. Add to that South Ironwood beach with huge waves and tons of sea-spray = more nervous photographer.

But you know what? This family was completely adorable. I loved how everyone came together and how much play was involved.

We did this Maui family photo session at a little bit of a different location. They were staying Maalaea, which isn’t in direct view of the sunset, so we decided to meet at Mile Marker 14 just south of Olowalu. It was an absolutely beautiful evening. Extended families are so much fun to work with. Maui is the perfect place for a Maui family photo session. I loved all the energy this family had – it was so much fun to see the interaction between aunts and uncles with little Stephanie who sure loved the water and is quite smitten by everyone in her family.

The interesting thing about being a Maui photographer is that we don’t meet our clients beforehand most of the time. We have a date, a time, and a location picked out and have sent emails back and forth, but the day of the session is when we meet the client for the first time. As I walked up to the meeting spot at DT Fleming Beach park in Kapalua, I knew that this was going to be an awesome session. There they were…dressed in grey and black… and there I was… also dressed in grey and black!

Older brother, Carter, is on the verge of being a teenager. You know, that time when it’s not so cool to smile. But he indulged me and I got some great smiles out of him. Younger brother, Kyle, is adorable as can be. Both were amazing kids to work with. And don’t even get me started on Mom and Dad – ADORABLE in every way. I love the way this family interacted with each other. They are so comfortable being a family. It was an absolute delight to watch them – it is sessions like these that make me love my job, appreciate life, and know that I am doing the right thing with my life.

This sweet family was on vacation together and decided to have a Maui family vacation photo session to celebrate everyone being together. It was an amazing morning – calm with a soft pastel light – at Baby Beach in Lahaina.

It was a quiet morning when I got the booking form for a last minute photo session in Lahaina. Little did I know that the construction traffic was horrible coming into Lahaina and what should have taken an hour to drive ended up taking two hours.

I called them to let them know I wasn’t going to make it to the sitters in time with the kids and still make our maui photography appointment. I am so thankful they invited my kids to join in on the fun of this wonderful session.

Upon arrival to Baby Beach, my middle son Kai Boy, decided to strip nekkid and was a little streaking baby. My oldest, Ryenne, was neck deep in the water, and my youngest, Cruz, decided to jump in with all his clothes and shoes on. But despite my crazy three joining us on this photo session, this family was AMAZING to work with.

Mom and Dad are super awesome and the kiddos are adorable. It was so much fun running around with them. The light of the evening was amazing – and then the sunset was absolutely incredible. It was the perfect evening to be out on the beach. I absolutely love all the moments that were captured during this session.

The nice thing about Maui is that most photographers get along. And I’m fortunate to have a group of fabulous photographer friends here. It’s wonderful to know that there are other mom-photographers who are going through the same things that I am – trying to balance work, home, and kids. This job, after all, is similar to motherhood in that it is 24/7. Our images become somewhat our “babies” and we care for them and take pride in them and hone our skills to release our images out into the world.

Meet Karma – a beautiful, fabulous, talented fellow Maui photographer and her adorable family. I was so thrilled that she asked to go to Old Maui High. The ruins of Old Maui High are located in an old camp called Hamakuapoko – which doesn’t even exist anymore. It lies abandoned in the middle of a sugar cane field. It’s still glorious and beautiful despite it’s age. As a teenager, this was a favorite place for me to hang out. I always felt peaceful here – though it looked very different back then!

It was an absolutely glorious afternoon for a Maui photographers session. I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s so wonderful to capture these moments for a fellow Maui Photographer. All too often we’re the ones behind the lens. It’s so nice to have images with US enjoying our families!!
