I was so thrilled to meet up recently with Christina Lewis of Wedding Warriors. Christina specializes in planning eco-chic, green weddings throughout the Texas Hill Country and resides in beautiful Wimberley. Christina and I tossed back ideas of setting up a vintage inspired wedding shoot in Wimberley showcasing local vendors. I am so happy to have been part of this project and to have met such wonderful people. Christina is my first ever guest poster on the blog!

A Little Bit of Heaven Inspired Wedding Shoot

A little town nestled between Austin and San Antonio welcomes visitors with a sign saying ‘a little bit of Heaven,’ and for couples getting married here in the Hill Country, it really is. Thinking out of the box, eco-chic wedding planner Christina Lewis of Wedding Warriors and the artistry of Mariah Milan Photography decided to join their creative forces for a whimsical and vintage Wimberley inspired wedding shoot. ‘We wanted brides, especially those with a smaller wedding and budget, to think out of the box when it came to their day.’

If you are getting married in a smaller town like Wimberley, why not make use of your environs for some fabulous and offbeat photos. Mariah and I started the journey at Wimberley Inn, where innkeepers Denese and Dan were gracious in opening the revitalized and absolutely adorable doors of ‘The Greenhouse’ for us. This charming venue on the edge of Wimberley town will be available for smaller weddings soon!

We moved on to Star Antiques on River Road, where owner Lisa, was happy to participate in this creative process that Mariah and I had been discussing for some time and then decided, no more talk, let’s do it! By the way the beautiful chandelier at Wimberley Inn is from Star Antiques.

Keeping it local, the beautiful bridal bouquet was designed by Kari Shelton from WOW Factor. Breathtaking is definitely one of the words that came to mind. Kari also provided a wedding dress for us to use – the one that she wore for her wedding day!

We roped in the talented, versatile and oh so much fun Margo Mead, hair and make-up stylist! Margo is based with the award winning Jco and Company Salon in Austin.

A thank you to our groom, Justin Gadd and to our lovely bride Melissa Wells for their laughter and joy in a downtown Texas adventure.

First let’s start off at Wimberley Inn…. the afternoon light was dreamy.

The green cottage was beautifully styled by Christina Lewis.

We then moved on to Star Antiques… lovely!

It had been a year since I had seen this trio of gorgeous gals. My how time flies! We were all set to meet up at Butler Park, but alas, it was not meant to be. A huge concert was taking place and parking was nowhere to be found. So we headed to Zilker Park and the golden light was stunning. It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day on the lake. It was absolutely perfect.

These sweet girls had so many ideas to spring on me. They are absolute dolls in front of the camera, and I hear they have lots of practice since their mom is quite the shutterbug.

One of my favorite moments was when mom went to touch up her lip gloss and the girls’ each mentioned they had chapped lips. The perfect scheme for some lip gloss. It reminded me so much of what I would say to my own mom when I was their age to get some lipstick. Made my heart smile.

Thank you, gorgeous ladies, for such an awesome afternoon at the park. You three are an absolute delight!

I just sat down to write a note to the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas and include all your generous checks (as well as my own) from the last month for our GIVINGisAWESOME campaign.

I can’t even begin to tell you how proud I am – of all of us – for making such wonderful contributions to this important charity!

I am now officially beginning my slow season. Orders have all been placed for Christmas delivery and I can now sit down and design my own Christmas card (and hopefully get them out on time!).

I’ll be taking it easy the rest of the month to enjoy time with family (my brother is visiting from Maui!) and experience the magic of Christmas with my children. I’ll also be prepping some fun things that will be going into two really awesome Austin locations. I will blog about each… I am tickled to be invited to these awesome spots…. so stay tuned.

As I enter into my third trimester of pregnancy, I’m happy to announce that I will be taking the month of March completely off! But let’s not leave out January and February… so I have a little special for these months… 50% off session fee!!

It has been a few weeks of strong, beautiful women and their daughters I have gotten to photograph. There is such a special bond between mom and daughter.

Erin and I had discussed a non-holiday look to their portraits, and I was thrilled with the weather. We didn’t expect the giant mosquitoes though (bummer!). Erin hand made the girls’ tutus and they looked absolutely adorable. Once the camera came out though, big sister Eva wanted nothing to do with the photo shoot.

I’m sure park goers were entertained as me and Tia Nicole made puppy noises, jumped up and down, pretended bunnies were on our heads, ect. Yet despite the two year old tantrum, I think I captured some pretty spectacular moments between all of them.

luckily a doggy was passing right behind me!

okay… so this image on the left. I am in love with it. Mommy was comforting Eva, Nico was eating grass, and the sunlight hit everyone so beautifully. Erin, you are a natural in front of the camera!! I love photographing you! And the second image is Nico getting love from mama.

Erin I know that when we walked away after this session you were wondering if I had gotten anything… I hope this sneak peek shows that we did.

justin & leighanna | part four | destination wedding photographer

More of Justin and Leighanna’s amazing wedding. I’m home sick and had to cancel a holiday session today. But it did give me time to work on my growing “to do” list. Enjoy this last bit of this amazing wedding.

above: The amazing cupcakes that were served and one of the coolest things… a wish tree. All the guests left wishes and messages on the leaves. Sweet!

Justin & Leighanna | part one | Destination Wedding Photographer

I was going to wait until I edited the entire wedding to sit down and post some images… but it’s too hard! I am getting to the editing in bits of pieces so I figured I’d post in bits and pieces as I edit and that way it’ll keep up the suspense too.

This is one amazing wedding. I am so happy I got to spend time with Leighanna and Justin while they were getting ready. Especially Leighanna… getting ready in the old plantation house with amazing windows and amazing light.

Absolutely, positively GORGEOUS!

Leighanna’s mom made these beautiful little purses… one for Leighanna and one for each bridesmaid. Aren’t they sweet? And I love Leighanna’s wedding slippers.

This dress… oh this dress! It was as if it were made for Leighanna only!

I just loved how everyone is doing something.

And then I made a quick trip over to check on the boys. This made me laugh!

Leighanna’s dad showing Justin what’s waiting for him if he’s a bad husband (which would never, ever happen cause they are made for each other!). And then back to the house to get Leighanna’s finishing touches.

Meet the beautiful Landis Grace. I had the privilege of photographing her at a mere five days old and she is such a doll! She is already so strong and has mastered smiling. We had some beautiful light coming in from the doorway and she was so wonderful with me as I posed her and talked to her. She stayed nice and sleepy for almost the entire shoot!

Her mommy, Christina, decorated her room in a beautiful Shabby Chic theme. Shabby Chic is just one of my very favorite things… so I figured I’d give a vintage feel to at least one image to go with all the beautiful dresses, shoes, and baby items in her room.

So many favorites from this session… hard to narrow it down to just a few. But here are some of my favorites for Baby Landis Grace and her lovely mommy.

That one on the left… that looks like a big canvas to me. If I had a studio, that would be going on my wall!

Gotta love those details… her perfect head of hair and those squishy lips!

She is such a sweetheart… like I said, too many favorites to post!
