A heartfelt same-sex wedding in Maui, celebrating love at Ironwood Beach and Honolua Forest.

Dori & Natalie’s Maui Micro Wedding at Ironwood Beach, Kapalua

Wedding

Dori and Natalie’s wedding was a statement of love, commitment, and the quiet joy of finding your person. On this golden afternoon at Ironwood Beach in Kapalua, their microwedding was Intimate, heartfelt, and deeply connected to the land and each other. I was honored they chose me to document this day for them, and I’m still amazed at how much we fit into just two hours of coverage!

A Micro Wedding on the Cliffs of Kapalua

We started the afternoon at Honolua Forest for portraits before heading to Ironwood Beach for their ceremony. While wedding ceremonies aren’t allowed in the forest (and should never be held there), it’s a breathtaking place for mindful, respectful photography. It’s important to keep in mind that sensitive areas like this have some rules of conduct – stay on designated paths, leave no trace, and understand that iwi kupuna are here for their final resting place. Dori and Natalie took it all in and were beautifully present with each other.

Their ceremony at Ironwood Beach was simple and powerful. Just a handful of their closest people, the sound of the ocean, and a whole lot of love. There was no over-the-top setup, no distractions—just two people committing to each other in a place that felt like home. It was officiated by one of my favorite people, Sean “Keli’i” Aquino, who brought such warmth and intention to their vows.

Why We Love Micro Weddings & Elopements on Maui

Weddings don’t have to be big to be meaningful. In fact, the most impactful ones are often the most intimate. Micro weddings and elopements allow couples to strip away the noise and focus on what really matters — their love, their commitment, and the experience they want to create together.

For LGBTQIA+ couples, choosing to elope or have a micro wedding can also be about reclaiming the wedding experience, making it a space that feels completely safe, celebratory, and true to who they are. Dori and Natalie’s day was a reminder that love is love, and it deserves to be honored in ways that feel right to the people living it.

Planning Your LGBTQIA+ Micro Wedding in Maui (or Beyond!)

If you’re considering a lesbian wedding, LGBTQIA+ wedding, or a same-sex elopement, there are so many stunning places to choose from. I’m always ready to go wherever your love story takes you.

A few things to keep in mind:

Respect the land: Some locations are sacred, and we always make sure to follow local guidelines and tread lightly.

Make it your own:
Whether it’s a micro wedding with just a few guests or a totally private elopement, the day should reflect YOU.

Embrace the elements: Nature brings wind, waves, golden light, and sometimes unexpected weather. It’s all part of the experience, and it makes for some incredible, real moments.

Dori and Natalie’s wedding was a testament to all of this—simple, intentional, and overflowing with love.
