Practical Tips for your Maui Elopement

How to prepare for your maui elopement

How to Prepare for Your Maui Elopement

Not only is Maui a popular vacation destination, it’s also an extremely popular location to get married. Between the gorgeous beaches and relaxed wedding laws, it’s no surprise that many engaged couples are opting to elope in Maui.

While many couples choose to elope to take the stress out of planning a larger wedding, it’s still important to prepare well ahead of time. Here are a few ways that you can prepare for your elopement before arriving in Maui.

Take your guests into consideration

When planning your elopement, keep in mind that not everyone you invite will be able to make it to your special day. Plane tickets can be pricey, costing upwards of $1,000 depending on the point of origin so take that into consideration when planning your guest list. For the guests who can make it, make sure you give them plenty of notice so they can book their accommodations, rental cars, and any final details of the trip. While Maui is a gorgeous place to visit, be sure to thank your guests for making the trip and let them know that you appreciate the effort!

Be mindful of the weather

Maui is known for its beautiful beaches and gorgeous weather, but some spots are notorious for rain or wind such as Kapalua, Ironwoods, and Napili. When planning your wedding, be sure to prepare for rain, wind, or other unpleasant weather scenarios.  Keep in mind that the sun moves throughout the year, so you might not get a sunset depending on the beach and month. Be sure to talk to your photographer for suggested spots and time of year. Check out this helpful article for more information on Maui weather.

Ring delivery

The exchanging of rings is one of the most symbolic, memorable moments of any wedding ceremony. When planning a destination wedding, it’s important to make proper arrangements for your rings. The last thing that anyone wants leading up to their big day is for their rings to get lost in baggage claim or slip out of their bag while traveling. A great way to avoid any mishaps with your rings while traveling is to have your rings shipped directly to the resort or hotel that you and your partner are staying at (check with the hotel on their policies). Online jeweler, Blue Nile, offers an incredible collection of wedding bands for men and women that can be shipped all over the world. This is a great way to ensure that your rings arrive to Maui safely and stress-free. If shipping isn’t ideal, carry the rings on your person throughout travel.

Beach weddings

It’s important to note that Maui beaches are public. If you plan on getting married on the beach, you cannot ask people to move by law. Certain beaches in Maui are extremely popular for weddings, so there may even be multiple weddings in the same area. Be sure to keep this in mind when planning your special day. If you’re worried about this, consider reserving an estate or private location for your ceremony. You can always head to a beach after the ceremony for romantic photos.

Finalize your details ahead of time

There’s nothing worse than realizing the day before your wedding that you never actually finalized arrangements with your vendors. Make lists, ask your wedding party or family for help with tasks, and plan ahead to ensure that your big day goes off without a hitch. Be sure to get everything in writing. Contracts are important when it comes to reserving any major service or vendor for your Maui wedding day. This will ensure that no unexpected issues come up on the day of your wedding as you have written proof of what was previously agreed upon and the associated costs with it. Try to arrive to the location at least a few days before your wedding to make sure that everything is squared away with your venue and vendor. Hiring a wedding planner is a great way to make sure that all of your arrangements are taken care of ahead of time.

Most importantly, relax and enjoy the island as much as possible. Remember why you and your partner came to Maui in the first place. Be thankful for the opportunity to celebrate your love in such a gorgeous location.
